Esi Madge Gill Willis, Ph.D. - Director and  Co-Founder 
SAT, ACT, Math Enrichment

Dr. Willis has been involved in education in many roles for over 35 years. She has been a classroom teacher, school psychologist, college professor, and teacher trainer. Her work has focused on understanding how children learn and on developing the best environment and teaching strategies to facilitate educational excellence for children of African descent.  She has researched and published on the roles of culture and language in children's learning and on successful schools for our children.
She earned her A.B. (Brown University in psychology), M.S. (University of Pennsylvania in psychological services in education), and Ph.D. (Georgia State University in educational psychology and under the direction of Dr. Asa G. Hilliard III) . 
"Mama Esi," as many of her students call her, and her husband, Kwabena, have two grown children, Jehuti, a graduate of Nsoromma and a mechanical engineering graduate of North Carolina A&T, and Kisa, a graduate of Howard  University.

Carol Phelps - 
SAT, ACT, Youth Entrepreneurship

Ms. Phelps brings to Nsoromma a background in elementary education as well as an M.B.A. in finance and many years of experience as a financial analyst.  Not surprisingly, she teaches entrepreneurship and financial literacy at Nsoromma and has helped many students start and maintain successful businesses.  Carol has been an active promoter of entrepreneurship in the community and has worked closely with South West Atlanta Youth Business Organization (SWAYBO) and NFTE-related organizations for many years.   The mother of two children, her son Marcus is an Nsoromma graduate.

Ido Jamar, Ph.D. - 
Math Enrichment, Teachers Transforming

Idorenyin (Ido) Jamar, the Math Psychologist, is a great asset to Nsoromma School.  Dr. Jamar has served on the faculty in Mathematics Education at the University of Pittsburgh and Bayero University (Kano, Nigeria) and has taught secondary mathematics in urban schools for over ten years.  She received a Ph.D. and M.S. in Cognitive Psychology and a B.A. in Applied Mathematics, all from Brown University.

Emmanuel Tillman - 
SAT, ACT, Math Enrichment

Emmanuel Tillman is an instructor in the Triple Threat SAT Prep Course.  Emmanuel is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in systems engineering and an MBA from the University of Michigan.  He and his wife are the parents of twin daughters who have participated in Nsoromma community programs.

Christian Ford -
Study Skills for Success, SAT

Mr. Christian is an SAT and Study Skills instructor.  He enjoys sharing how learning how to study helped him to become a better college student.  It certainly did -- he is currently in the Ph.D. program in Electrical Engineering at Georgia Tech after completing his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina A&T State University, an M.S. in Electrical Enginnering from University of Southern California and another M.S. in Bioengineering from Georgia Tech!  ​

Jehuti Willis - 
Study Skills for Success

Mr. Jehuti teaches in our Study Skills program.  He enjoys sharing what he learned as a freshman honor student in mechanical engineering at North Carolina A&T State University. He's also a big advocate for the Triple Threat Test Prep programs.  After attending our SAT prep workshops as a high school student, his SAT scores increased to the level that multiple universities offered him "full ride" scholarships and he was admitted to all of the colleges to which he applied including Brown University, Georgia Tech, and Tuskegee University. "The test prep works!" he tells the students.
