What are the SAT and ACT exams?
The SAT and ACT are tests given to high school students with a desire to attend college. Scores on one of these are required by most colleges as part of the application process. Many colleges use it to make decisions about admissions and merit scholarships.
The SAT test is administered by the College Board and includes subtests on reading comprehension, writing and language skills, and mathematics. There is an optional essay section. The ACT test is a national college admissions examination that consists of subject area tests in English, Mathematics, Reading and Science. There is an optional writing (essay) section. ACT results are accepted by all four-year colleges and universities in the US. SAT Concerns Because of some of the recent issues with the SAT test (some people had access to the August 2018 test questions before the test -- and someone sued them about it and the scoring on the June 2018 test went wonky particularly for high-scoring students), we suggest students consider focusing on the ACT as their primary college admissions test.
